Moda-ML, 2008-1 version

release 15/12/2008

Introduction to the releases of Moda-ML

The official versions of Moda-ML (named with the year and a number, ex. '2004-1') after the release are public and cannot modified; they are available on-line and can be used also after the release of the further versions.
A version is made of:

  • collaboration processes analisys (reference samples)
  • different templates for the different kind of messages, XML documents, (XML Schemas, used to validate the documents) and the related User guides.
  • a dictionary of terms and of their coding
  • optionally stylesheets (XSL) to show the message content and samples

The Draft version, differently, is a working version, accessible to the workgroup and to the focus group members (in the final phases also registered users can access them) and is under published for comments. It can be modified many times before the release of an official version.
Comments are welcome on all the versions (the last official and the draft ones): the comments must be addressed to the staff (click HERE).

These documents and software can be freely downloaded and used, they cannot be sold but you can embed them in your products and commercial solution (you must only inform that they are present and developed by the MODA-ML team).

Introduction to the Reference collaborative processes (ebBP)

The representation of the inter-company collaborative processes is a result of Moda-ML.
In fact, sharing a common representation of the collaborative process (a scenario) and of its activities and messages to be exchanged, simplifies the setup of the collaboration and reduces misalignments and misunderstanding.
Its representation can be codified with an XML document (a ebBP, according with the ebXML terminology)

The reference collaboration processes are described (as images and as Business Process Specification Schemas) for some common typologies of the textile Clothing supply chain; starting from these representations the firms and their technology suppliers will be able to decide to implement them completely or partially, or to create new variants more taylord to their needs.

Introduction to the XML document template

The structure of the XML documents is the very prescriptive part of the Moda-ML framework: using the Moda-ML documents, the prescriptions must be completely respected about structure of the documents, names and coding, optionality or mandatory use of elements, meaning of each element.
Otherwise the documents could be not validable with the XML Schema (that are the only way to check the formal compliance of the documents) or could generate misunderstandings about the meaning of the message on the side of your partners.
The allowable customisations are about the use or not of a document or about the elements of the document that are declared 'optional'; they can be used to simplify the documents (not all the elements are always necessary).

The (template of) MODA-ML documents of each release are on www.moda-ml.net and are represented by:

  • XML Schemas, public but that cannot be modified, they must be used to validate the XML documents.
  • User Guides, that completely describe the structure and the aim of the documents, together with the elements and their coding rules.
  • in some cases, Samples and Stylesheets(XSL) might be available and can be used to visualize with a browser the content of the XML documents. The proposed stylesheets should be considered as a sample or a reference to be used directly or customised or ignored and substituted with custom stylesheets.
