According to the Law of 22nd July 1948 and Decree of 14th April 2000, I.F.T.H is an industrial technical centre. It stems from the merger of two existing organisations: CETIH (French technical centre for the clothing industries) and ITF (French Textile Institute). Created on 1st November 2000, it takes over the whole of the missions, goods, rights and liabilities of CETIH and ITF (1st article of the decree dated 14th April 2000). I.F.T.H. is divided up into 10 sites spread out in France and employs 350 persons (mostly engineers and technicians). As a non-profit organisation, it is administrated by a board of industrialists and under the supervision of the French Ministry of Industry. IFTH has a total budget of 27 million Euros, 9 millions of which are state-subsidised. |

Web site of the FP6 project Abilities.
From the site: "The basic goal of the present ABILITIES (Application Bus for InteroperabiLITy In enlarged Europe SMEs) proposal is: to study, design and develop a federated architecture implemented by a set of intelligent and adaptive UBL active messages (an Application Bus for EAI) and basic interoperability services, which aims at supporting SMEs EAI in e-commerce contexts, specifically in less developed Countries and less RTD intensive industrial sectors.
In particular, ABILITIES will address three research streams: Orientation towards Enlarged Europe SMEs: starting from OASIS' (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards) UBL 1.0 specifications (Universal Business Language), defining a generic XML interchange format for business documents to support a typical order-to-invoice procurement cycle, ABILITIES will make UBL suitable for Enlarged Europe industrial SMEs and will change, extend, and adapt UBL where necessary for this purpose;
Federated Architecture and Intelligent Business Documents: provide support for the architecture that ISO 14258 (International Standard prepared by Technical Committee 184) identifies as federated (on-the-fly reconciliation and mapping negotiation, as no reference meta-model can be developed), the most advanced and sophisticated solution from the ICT viewpoint, suitable for the less structured and advanced industrial cases, sectors and domains. Also in the presence of a reference meta-model for order-to-invoice business documents (UBL), ABILITIES will experiment an innovative blended architecture which could join the peculiar advantages of message-based Service Oriented Architectures and Intelligent Multi-Agent Systems, in a context where business documents become intelligent, interactive and multi-media objects;
Service Orchestration and Business Process support: Study and provide reconciliation between research and standards in business documents and research and standards in business process management."

Open Negotiation Environment: The ONE project is a STREP project funded by the European Commission under the DG-INFSO that has the objective to enrich business ecosystems with an open, decentralised negotiation environment and enabling tools that will allow organisations to create contract agreements for supplying complex, integrated services as a virtual organisation/coalition. The project is especially geared towards SMEs, providing them with a trusted, secure and free of charge technological environment through which they can create the tactical and strategic alliances to pursue business opportunities and growth. To be competitive in digital markets SMEs will need to develop alliances and collaborate to provide joint service offerings and also address large tenders.

COIN Integrated research project.
Enterprise Collaboration (EC) and Enterprise Interoperability (EI) have been the two major research catalysts for DG INFSO D4 "Networked Enterprise & Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)", and aggregated tens of projects and hundreds of researchers in their projects clusters initiatives. COIN is rooted in the previous initiatives.
COIN Vision “By 2020 enterprise collaboration and interoperability services will become an invisible, pervasive and selfadaptive knowledge and business utility at disposal of the European networked enterprises from any industrial sector and domain in order to rapidly setup, efficiently manage and effectively operate different forms of business collaborations, from the most traditionally supply chains to the most advanced and dynamic business ecosystems.”
The mission of the COIN IP is to study, design, develop and prototype an open, selfadaptive, generic ICT integrated solution to support the above 2020 vision, starting from notable existing research results in the field of Enterprise Interoperability and Enterprise Collaboration. |

The platform addresses the law and economics of patents in technology standards and the standard-setting process. It has been already collected a large number of legal and economic academic papers and books; court decisions and briefs; protocols and bylaws of important technology standard-setting bodies; and other materials of value to scholars pursuing new work in this area. The aim is to focus both on the interrelationship of patents, technology standards and innovation and on the emerging academic literature and legal precedent dealing with antitrust and other treatment of misconduct in the standard-setting process. |

Small and Medium enterprises standardisation toolkit.
In 2008 and 2009, the National Standardization Bodies of the Netherlands (NEC/NEN), Sweden (SIS), Hungary (MSZT) and Slovenia (SIST) will do a project to assist SMEs. The main purpose is to promote the involvement of SMEs from the 12 new CENELEC and CEN National Standardization Bodies, coming from the new EU Member States, in the European standardization processes.
The project is initiated and financed by the European Commission and EFTA. It aims at providing an effective tool to support the successful implementation of the EU policies and activities in this field. The project partners will develop a toolkit and organize train the trainer' activities. They believe that it is of primary importance to ensure user friendly means able to provide easy, clear and effective replies to the questions or doubts that SMEs may have.
The toolkit of training material for the promotion of participation in European standardization should focus on three main issues, awareness, information and participation. |

China - European Union Standards.
The China-EU-Standards project is promoting research collaboration on Information Technology standardisation between China and Europe. The People’s Republic of China has become increasingly active in information technology standards. This activity raises important issues for China about standardisation processes and technology promotion policy, with significant consequences for the European economy and global ICT market. These issues are of particular interest to the FP7 Information Society Technologies programme.

ISO 11354. Requirements for establishing manufacturing enterprise process interoperability. This standard is an CEN/ISO NWI that specifies requirements for interoperation both within and between operational environments of manufacturing enterprises. It defines an interoperability framework and specifies requirements for processes and underpinning metadata that must be in place to establish solutions to various concerns of interoperability (business, processes, services, data). It describes the particular requirements of different types of environments (unified, integrated, and federated). It focuses on requirements to enable communication rather than defining the communication itself, and is thus independent of specific technologies. (Martin Zelm and Kurt Kosanke) |

Cross Industry Invoice (CII) Version 2.0
The United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) has approved the Cross Industry Invoice (CII) Version 2.0 standard to enhance links between the business and financial supply chains and enable cross-industry and cross-domain interoperability. This common global standard is based on a set of business requirements from different industries and stakeholders in both the private and public sectors.
The CII, which is an electronic document exchanged globally between trading partners with a prime function as a request for payment, is an important accounting document and has potential legal implications for sender and receiver. It is also typically used as the key document for Value Added Tax (VAT) declaration and reclamation, for statistics declarations, and to support export and import declarations in respect of international trade.
The CII addresses the strong business need for large scale implementation of eInvoicing, in particular, offering valuable assistance for business and governments in exchanging structured data. It has international application and also supports the requirements of the European Commission Expert Group on eInvoicing. It will be complemented by a series of additional UN/CEFACT standards covering core supply chain processes including Quotation, Scheduling, Catalogue, Ordering and Despatch Advice.
The release of the second generation of the Cross Industry Invoice, together with ongoing work within the UN/CEFACT Forum, was welcomed by the CEN/ISSS Workshop/BII (European Committee for Standardization Information Society Standardization System Workshop on Business Interoperability Interfaces on public procurement in Europe) as it allows them to move forward with their work on Implementation Verification of key business documents for use in procurement within Europe. |

Moda-ML is an initiative that aims to publicly offer tools and format specifications for the data exchange based on XML and Internet and to stimulate convergence and consensus of associations and firms.
Moda-ML: a language and a common method to integrate companies of the Textile/Clothing supply chain. The approach of Moda-ML is based on the exchange of standardized XML documents (‘messages’) that are publicly available via Internet. The transmission of the XML messages is based on the ebXML protocol that is publicly availble. Moda-ML participated the CEN/ISSS initiative WS TexSPIN to create a sectorial European standard for the B2B exchanges leaded by the European Association of the Textile and Apparel industry, Euratex. Moda-ML began thanks to the European support to the Moda-ML project (IST Take-Up Action Line IV.2.5 "Computing, communications and networks take-up measures") through the V Framework Research Programm (cluster of projects Eutist-AMI). After the conclusion of the initial contract, Moda-ML continues through the activities of the Technical Group and of the Pilot Users of the project in other initiatives with regional, national and European support. |
